Homemade Pesto Recipe
You may substitute other herbs or greens for basil to make it interesting. We have used garlic scapes and arugula with very tasty results!!
- 2 cups fresh basil leaves
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1/3 cup pine nuts or walnuts
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese fresh
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1/2 cup olive oil
Add the fresh basil leaves, garlic, nuts, parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper to the bowl of your food processor. Pulse 5 times until a coarse mixture forms.
Turn the food processor on low and slowly add olive oil in a steady stream.
Serve the pesto immediately or store refrigerated. Make sure it is covered. This pesto can also be frozen in containers. You may also freeze in ice trays then transferred to a freezer bag for individual use!
